Mayor Christopher D’Amario and the Manchester Town Council introduced an ordinance at the February convening that is designed to cut down on excessive commuter traffic that has continually used residential neighborhoods as a bypass through town.
Ordinance 181 would prohibit entry onto Augusta Road and Millie Way from Fridinger Mill Road between the hours of 6am-8:30am on weekdays. Exempt from this ordinance is school buses and emergency vehicles.
“This ordinance was especially crafted to protect our children while at their bus stops from people looking for a quicker way to work,” commented Mayor D’Amario. “We realize this measure won’t entirely fix the issues our town is facing with traffic through our neighborhoods, but it’s a step in the right direction.
Public comment is welcome at the March Town Council meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the Manchester Municipal Building. Download a draft of Ordinance 181.
